HUMAN RIGHTS IMPACT ASSESSMENT TRAINING E-COURSE
For Oxfam America, an international confederation of charitable organizations focused on the alleviation of global poverty, we have developed a digital training manual that aims to increase awareness and use of the Human Right Impact Assessment tool, which was designed to be used by community-based organizations, to analyze the human rights impacts of private foreign investments. Starting from this concept, we have transformed the existing training material into an online training course, including videos presenting the experiences of partners that have previously used the tool.
SERVICES USED:
Learning design, learning production and edTech consultancy

KEY DETAILS_
THE CHALLENGE_
Oxfam America is an international confederation of organisations working together with partners and local communities, in more than 90 countries, to find lasting solutions to poverty and injustice.
The main objective behind the project was developing a digital training solution that raises awareness around human rights impact assessment as a tool to ensure greater respect for human rights in the context of foreign investment projects and ensures more familiarity with the “Getting it Right” tool, while providing a better idea on how to get started using the tool. Hence, the key challenge was working directly with various subject matter experts, in multiple languages, to develop digital content within an acceptable ‘NGO-friendly’ budget.
THE SOLUTION_
The project’s allocated budget and resources were efficiently used to design and produce a learning solution featuring:
- Consultancy on instructional methodology
- A custom user-interface and navigation
- A 1-hour interactive learning object
- A how-to-use video navigating through the tool
The resulting Getting It Right Tool ensured that the original training material is easily accessed by broader number of organizations, human rights advocates and Oxfam staff, with a higher chance for interactivity.
TESTIMONIALS_
“I would say that they were a creative partner. They really brought our vision to life; we had a bunch of ideas that were really scattered and they were with us all along the way collaborating, coming up with innovative ideas of how we could express the course and really make it useful and impactful to the colleagues in the field. I’m so grateful.”
