SAFE SPACE LEARNING PLATFORM
Safe Space is an online platform supported by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT). Its aim: protect children by promoting a culture of cyber safety and security in Qatar and the Arab world. Using our deep learning expertise, Kashida provided an end-to-end service to Safe Space including learning design and development, as well as learning management. The result? A completely revamped platform focused on human-centred experience and more children kept safe.

REAL RESULTS_
HUMAN-CENTRED DESIGN_
Safe Space is focused on keeping children safe, and so targets a range of audiences including young people, their caregivers and educators and even more broadly, the general public. They came to us with dwindling confidence in their current content and platform’s ability to deliver positive learning experiences and outcomes, and therefore were looking for a complete shakeup of approaches.
They wanted us to create an engaging learning environment that encourages people to want to learn more about cyber safety at both a personal and community level.
Here at Kashida, we’re focused on behaviour change and believe that is accomplished through human-centred design. So we collaborated closely with Safe Space to develop behaviour change in their audience through three key principles: prevention, protection and empowerment, using a diverse range of rich media assets to do so.
BEAUTIFUL, BESPOKE LEARNING EXPERIENCES_
Due to the mix of audiences that Safe Space is made available to, it was critical that we addressed their needs and interests accordingly. In order to keep everyone motivated to learn, we needed modern learning assets that made accessing core knowledge in cyber safety fun, engaging and informative. To achieve this we developed a clear content framework that followed a thorough design-thinking approach.
Based on the outcomes from the framework, we then developed the UX design and user interface and then planned an extensive roll out plan for eleven themes to target five target audiences. This was a very complex project where Kashida was involved in every aspect including:
- Undertaking a robust audit of existing learning content and content mapping
- Conducting a needs assessment and workshops with experts to deeply understand the DNA of the business and its target audiences, in line with local culture
- Working with subject matter experts to sense-check learning objects and ensure the accuracy of content and technical terminology
- Aligning learning content and objects with audiences’ needs
- Curating playlists of learning, and developing a reward system with certificates and badges to maximise engagement and repeat visits
450 LEARNING ASSETS, 500% GROWTH_
Working within Safe Space’s learning budget, we created a modern learning experience for their audience. A flexible learning environment was built, fully supported by a huge volume of rich learning content and information. We created animations, a cartoon series, expert videos, articles, infographics, interactive activities, quizzes, surveys and even an Ambassador programme. Suffice to say, there was plenty on offer for every permutation of Safe Space’s target audience.
The project was a resounding success, with very tangible results achieved. Within a year, the team at Safe Space saw notable improvements in engagement including a 500% growth in visitors (of which 90% were new) as well as 300% increase in page views. Not only were more people visiting the platform, they were also learning more when they were there.
The result is keeping more Qatari children safe through improved cyber safety practices across the country. We’re proud to play a part in that.
