Throughout the collaboration, Kashida encountered several challenges in developing a comprehensive gender mainstreaming course. One significant hurdle involved ensuring diverse representation within the course content to authentically resonate with learners from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, creating an inclusive learning experience necessitated huge attention to accessibility, ensuring that all learners could engage fully with the material.
Engaging frontline workers, who often faced demanding roles and time constraints, presented another challenge, requiring a balance between comprehensive content delivery and practicality. Encouraging learners to identify gender mainstreaming problems and effectively apply newfound knowledge posed further complexities, demanding structured strategies for application. To address the challenges faced, Kashida implemented a series of tailored solutions. Clear design guidelines were established to ensure diverse representation in course content, fostering inclusivity and authenticity. Accessibility features such as closed captions, transcripts, alt text, and keyboard navigation were integrated to create an inclusive learning environment. The course structure was designed to be self-paced, accommodating the busy schedules of frontline workers while considering their prior knowledge and resources.
A structured strategy was implemented to facilitate problem identification and application, guiding learners to document gender mainstreaming issues and propose solutions, which were then automatically compiled into a tangible takeaway for further action. Moreover, interactive learning elements such as infographics, animations, case studies, and multiple-choice questions were seamlessly integrated, ensuring an engaging and effective learning experience while meeting accessibility requirements.
