AMNESTY HIGH-END LEARNING CONTENT
Amnesty International is an international non-governmental organisation. It’s a global movement of more than 10 million people in over 150 countries and territories who campaign to end abuses of human rights. Kashida collaborated with Amnesty International to establish their online academy and evolve their current training solutions from classroom to highly interactive, digital experiences – garnering over 4,500 subscribers to their flagship course in the first three months.

KEY INFORMATION_
EVOLVING TO ELEARNING_
Amnesty International has volunteers and staff across the world, actively fighting for human rights. They wanted to support this fight by providing people with core educational experiences centred around Human Rights. Originally this information was shared in face-to-face training environments, but scalability and consistency were problematic with this delivery method and so Amnesty sought to evolve this training into a digital experience and support people through an online academy.
This shift did not come without challenges. These learning experiences had to cater to a wider audience and tap into expertise from a wide range of experts to ensure it was comprehensive, universal and wide-ranging. On top of that, because the learning was going to be digital and self-paced, we had to ensure that participants would get the same experience, interactivity and knowledge that they would in a classroom setting. Not an easy feat – and so they came to Kashida.
“I was very pleased to meet the Kashida team, we had an intensive working relationship over couple of fruitful months, producing what I’m very proud of now: our Amnesty Human Rights Academy platform. It includes very good courses and feedback on the courses is great. We are very happy with this cooperation and hope the best for Kashida.”
BEAUTIFUL, BESPOKE LEARNING EXPERIENCES_
Our first step was deeply understanding Amnesty’s requirements, so we undertook our bespoke discovery process to truly understand their challenges and objectives. From there we developed the learning experience, collaborating closely with their subject matter experts and transforming their face-to-face activities and legacy online courses into engaging learning content including interactive digital objects, infographics, videos, social media assets and even forums for peer-to-peer sharing. It was our aim to avoid loads of rigid reading material and instead engage learners so as to maximise their knowledge acquisition.
On top of that, all learning content and the academy platform had to:
- Be delivered in 4 languages: English, Arabic, French and Spanish
- Adhere to WCAG accessibility standards to an AA standard
This was all launched within the bespoke academy that we also built for Amnesty. This platform included custom forums to allow learners to interact with each other, custom engines to allow user-generated activities and tonnes of custom stylesheets to accommodate Amnesty’s guidelines and different languages.
HIGHLY INTERACTIVE AND RESULTS-FOCUSED_
The resulting learner experience was one that was highly functional and accessible to the general public. That means that all learning content and courses were presented clearly, with a major emphasis on getting learner attention and keeping it.
The results speak for themselves. In the first three months since the academy was launched, Amnesty has seen over 8000 subscribers to the platform and over 4,500 subscribers to the flagship course ‘Human Rights Basics’ with very positive user feedback. On top of that, Amnesty’s team of subject matter experts also now have new learning skills in-house, having been trained by Kashida in topics such as instructional design, developing clear learning objectives and experience, and ensuring an efficient production process.
